Benefits of PRP Treatment for Athletes

2017-11-21T09:13:30-05:00

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment? Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is an FDA-approved, safe, and effective medical regenerative therapy that utilizes the human body’s own blood to treat injury and repair tissue. The platelets in blood contain hundreds of proteins – referred to as “growth factors”. When injected directly into the site of injury, these growth factors work to stimulate new cell growth and healing. PRP is blood plasma with a higher concentration of platelets than a typical blood sample – about 5 to 10 times higher (richer). To create platelet-rich plasma, a small sample of blood is drawn from the patient. Using a centrifuge, the blood is separated into layers. The platelet-rich layer is carefully removed from the sample, then injected back into the patient directly into the damaged tissue, where the concentration of growth factors can get to work repairing and healing the injury from the inside out. Why is PRP Treatment so [...]

Stressed out about hair loss? If so, you are not alone! In fact, hair loss is a common issue that many men and women experience at some point in their life. There are many causes for hair loss -- ranging from stress, aging, pregnancy, genetics, and even medications. In recent years, leading physicians have begun to use Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP, treatments to stimulate hair growth and reduce the effects of hair loss. How It Works: PRP treatment is a simple process known to stimulate natural healing properties within the body. During PRP treatment, a specialist utilizes less than four tablespoons of the patient's own blood. Human blood contains three major components -- red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. These cell fragments promote restoration of tissues and other cell re-growth factors. To separate the major growth element, the patient’s blood is spun in a special FDA-approved centrifuge machine. This process separates the [...]

There are thousands of products and procedures on the market positioned as solutions for skin rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction and anti-aging. Unfortunately, many of them commonly contain ingredients that can potentially harm skin's natural properties and cause increased skin damage rather than improving it. In recent years, PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) regeneration has become more and more popular and widely used as an effective (and natural!) skin rejuvenation and anti-aging method for people of all ages.   How Does PRP Work for Anti-Aging?                                                                                                                                   PRP treatment can be used in many ways, and some PRP procedures are specially tailored to restore elasticity in the skin. PRP Treatment: Helping Patients Heal Naturally

2017-10-16T09:49:03-04:00

When a patient has an injury, physicians typically utilize medicine and surgical techniques to correct the issue and soothe pain. They then have to monitor the patient carefully as the injury gradually heals over time. In recent years, however, many practitioners have successfully used Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments in place of medication or surgery to treat patients with pain or injury.   The Healing Process All injuries heal in stages. In many cases, larger or more complicated wounds may take longer to heal, but even the smallest injuries go through the same phases of healing on the way to full recovery. When surgical techniques are used to correct injuries, the body has to take time to heal afterwards. This process can be lengthy, uncomfortable, and expensive.   Immediately after an injury occurs, inflammation sets in and can last for several days depending on severity. Characteristics of inflammation include bleeding, swelling, redness, and pain. Inflammation [...]
